CAE database - a joint project of the German automotive industry

In the past, many engineers working in the field of stamping simulation, structural analysis, incl. crash simulation have been complaining about a lack of reliable material data in their field.

 

The comprehensive research project entitled:

"Evaluation of material and process specific properties for sheets of normal, high strength and non corrosive steels".

United steel producers, OEMs from the automotive industry, suppliers as well as research institutes in common effort to overcome this problem.

 

During the research phase, different steels were systematically tested with special focus on the development of uniform test methods to guarantee reliable and comparable results.

 

The major goal was to produce reliable data for the application in CAE systems. It is important to point out that factors like anisotropic properties and other influences are also considered systematically. Together with a group of German automakers, M-Base is working on the development of a data structure, database and evaluation software to handle the remarkable amount of test data that was obtained during the test phase. As a first result the software MARLIS was developed.

 

The future development will focus on the improvement of CAE interfaces and on extending the database for aluminum and other metals or material families.

Also a high priority will be set on developing new material models.
