Bioplastics: New Biopolymer Database

Due to the growing interest in sustainable material applications, so called Biopolymers become increasingly interesting for engineers. Unfortunately only very little information is available for this new class of materials, resulting in serious disadvantages in all material selection processes. Material information about properties and processing recommendations is missing, as well as information about the ecological relevance compared to conventional plastics.

 

Together with our project partner IfBB - Institute for Bioplastics and Biocomposites, University of Applied Sciences and Art, Hannover, we have developed a specific material database for biopolymers in a project which was funded by the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV) through the FNR, Agency for Renewable Resources. This database is available for free for all interested parties as a sub module of Material Data Center. It includes the typical datasheets and also application information and literature about this topic.

 

The system will continuously be extended by new data from several research projects.
